2 Dead After Plane Crashes in Remote Area of Big Bear Mountain

Two people were killed after a plane crashed in a remote area of Big Bear Mountain, San Bernardino County Coroner officials announced on Sunday.

Apple Valley police were called to Apple Valley Airport around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday after receiving reports that the missing pair were flying in from Big Bear and had yet to return.

Deputies discovered a vehicle belonging to one of the victim’s at the airport and began a search for the missing aircraft, the Department said in a news release.

The craft was located around 9:30 a.m. by a sheriff’s aerial unit in a remote area of the Big Bear Mountains, said Jodi Miller, public information officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Rebecca Joan Raymond, a San Bernardino County deputy sheriff, and an unidentified man were discovered amongst the wreckage. The pair were both pronounced dead at the scene, the Department said.

Raymond, 28, had been with the Department since September 2016.

The cause of the crash is unknown and the investigation is ongoing, the Department added.
