An armed intruder entered a home on the 16000 block of Forrest Avenue, near the Del Rey Drive intersection, just after 11 p.m.

Without asking for anything, the intruder opened fire on the two victims and then fled, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said.

One of the victims, identified as 60-year-old Don Grigsby, was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries around 11:55 p.m., Bachman said.

The second victim, 37-year-old Gregory Wilburn, was also struck and hospitalized but is expected to survive.

Grigsby's fiancee, Arlene Rivera, said she found him lying on the floor, motionless.

“I went to him and it was — he was just gone," she told KTLA. "I know he was gone at that moment.”

The couple had just moved into the homes a few months ago and were supposed to get married in two weeks, Rivera said.

She described her late fiance as a giver who cared about everybody and was beloved by everyone who met him. She also revealed that he had been battling cancer.

“He was a good person," she said. "He did not deserve to die this way after fighting so hard in his cancer battle.”

Rivera said Wilburn was Grigsby's roommate.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.

"At this time, they don't believe it was a robbery," said Bachman, adding that nothing appeared to have been taken from the home.

No description of the gunman was immediately available.

Anyone with information on the incident can contact Detective Mark Green at 909-387-3589.
