An investigation was underway in Victorville after a newborn baby was found dead near a busy intersection on Sunday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The baby was discovered in the area of Green Tree Boulevard and Seventh Street, Cindy Bachman of the Sheriff’s Department tweeted around 1:30 p.m.
Lisa Marie Amador was walking in the area when a passerby who spotted the female infant flagged her down and told her she was unsure if the child was breathing.
When she saw the newborn, the little body was in the dirt near a Victorville wall sign located in front of several businesses.
“I walked up to the baby and she wasn’t breathing,” Amador said.
She described the little girl as “purple,” and stated she was covered in globs of blood. Her umbilical cord was still attached, according to Amador.
The infant’s hair “was frozen … like she was sitting there and froze overnight,” the witness recalled, adding she discovered a bag above her little head. “Like, someone had the baby and then dumped it.”
Amador got emotional over the grim discovery.
“I started crying, I wanted to pick her up and hold her,” she said.
Homicide investigators cleared the scene later that night, according to Bachman. The department has not released any additional details about what they called a death investigation.
Anyone with information about the case was asked to call sheriff’s Detective Warrick at 909-387-3589 or 760-956-5001, Bachman tweeted.
