A pursuit suspect driving a stolen vehicle died Monday after being shot by law enforcement in San Bernardino, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies were on patrol in the unincorporated Muscoy area about 11:45 p.m. Sunday when they came across a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it, San Bernardino Police Department Sgt. John Echeverria said.
A high-speed pursuit ensued that lead authorities into San Bernardino city limits before coming to an end near the intersection of Hallmark Parkway and University Parkway.
At some point after the vehicle came to a stop “a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” Echeverria said. No details on what prompted the shooting or how many deputies opened fire were released.
The man, later identified as 28-year-old Bernie Rascon, was detained and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Video from the scene showed at least three bullet holes in the side of the pickup truck being driven by Rascon.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
Anyone with information was urged to call Detective Plummer at 909-384-5668 or Sergeant Tello at 909-384-5613.
