A 29-year-old man has been arrested after being seen with an airsoft gun and allegedly fighting with three San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies , officials said Friday.

Deputies responded to a report of a man who displayed a “large gun” in the parking lot of a mobile home park in the 400 block of Mountain Avenue about 8:10 a.m. Thursday, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The caller told officials the man put a large gun in a trunk and was wiping down his vehicle.

The man, identified as Markeith Terrell, of San Bernardino, refused a deputy’s commands and began fighting with him, officials said. Two more deputies responded to the scene and Terrell allegedly resisted all three of the deputies.

During the altercation, Terrell allegedly pushed one of the deputies to the ground. The suspect was eventually taken into custody and was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer, officials said.

An AR-15 airsoft rifle and drug paraphernalia were found in the trunk, according to the sheriff’s department.

Deputy Adam Cervantes described an airsoft gun as shooting plastic pellets.

The AR15 airsoft rifle is designed to look like a real rifle, Cervantes said, and it is not uncommon for his agency to receive calls from the public believing the airsoft guns are real firearms.

“They’re pretty realistic looking from a distance,” he said.
