A Loma Linda resident had thousands of dollars worth of property stolen from their garage last month, but as it turns out, the culprit may have been far closer to home than they first realized.
That resident, whose identity has not been released, discovered it was their neighbor who allegedly stole from them, a realization that came to light when the items appeared for sale online.
The burglary was reported Wednesday afternoon but it had actually occurred on May 22 in the 25500 block of Prospect Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
That day, about $4,000 worth of property was stolen from a home's attached garage, items that later appeared for sale on OfferUp, officials said.
"Through investigation, the OfferUp account was found to be associated to a neighbor of the victim, Victor Ibarra," investigators said.
A search of Ibarra's home allegedly yielded some of the victim's property, as well as a stolen motorcycle.
The 30-year-old was booked into the Central Detention Center on charges of first-degree burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle, though jail records indicate he was released on bail. The SBSD said his bail was set at $60,000.
No upcoming court date was listed in records.
