After a high-speed pursuit moved through the San Gabriel Valley late Thursday morning, at least one deputy was seen repeatedly punching a man on the ground when the chase ended in Pasadena.

The pursuit began after a 10:53 a.m. call about a possible residential burglary at Penrose Place and Oldenberg Court in Rancho Cucamonga, according to Cindy Bachman, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
The chase proceeded westbound on the 210 Freeway, moving at high speeds, according to Officer Monica Posada with the California Highway Patrol, which assisted the Sheriff's Department.
When the chase of the 1996 Lincoln coupe ended on Paloma Street at Palo Verde Avenue in Pasadena about 11:30 a.m., at least one deputy could be seen pummeling a man who was lying in the roadway.

The man was lying down on his stomach with his hands behind his back as one deputy appeared to hold a firearm pointed at him, while another deputy approached and seemed to knee the man.
The two deputies then crouched next to the man, and one of them began punching him with his right arm. The two deputies seemed to struggle on top of the man as the punching continued.
At least 15 punches appeared to be thrown. The deputy appeared to also knee the man in the head twice.
A witness who lives on the street where the pursuit came to a halt said she saw the violent arrest.
"There were two officers and they were pummeling him from each side," Aleta Hancock said.

Another witness said it seemed the suspect was struggling.
"He was not wanting to be handcuffed, so they really had to use force to handcuff him," said Leslie Donnellan.
The deputies appeared to be trying to get one of the man's arms back behind his back.
After a third deputy approached, the man appeared to be restrained, with his hands cuffed behind his back.
By 11:45 a.m., the man was seen being placed onto a stretcher by firefighters. He had a brace placed around his neck but appeared to be conscious and moving. He was later placed into an ambulance.
At least two other people was taken into custody after the pursuit, aerial video from Sky5 showed.

"This was a violent criminal act by criminals that had no regard for anyone's life," sheriff's Sgt. Phill Dupper said.
The department was interviewing witnesses and will review video of the incident in a use-of-force investigation, Dupper said.
A Rancho Cucamonga Police Department patrol vehicle appeared to have crashed into a tree near the end of the pursuit, Sky5 video showed.
The Lincoln also had front-end damage. It was not immediately clear how the pursuit ended.
The Police Department is operated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
