Man Sought in Assault, Attempted Rape of Woman Walking to Work in San Bernardino Area

Deputies asked the public for help Tuesday in their search for a man who assaulted and tried to rape a woman in an unincorporated area of San Bernardino.

The incident occurred as the victim was walking to work at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of East Baseline Street and Del Rosa Avenue, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

The victim told authorities a man began chase her, grabbed her by her hair and then turned her around.

The attacker then attempted to rip the woman’s shirt off and tried to unbutton her pants, according to the news release.

The woman fought back and managed to punch her attacker several times in the face and poke him in his left eye before running away, the Sheriff’s Department stated.

The attacker fled the area in an unknown direction.

The man was described as an African American, Hispanic or Pacific Islander with light skin color who was about 25 years old, stood 6 feet tall and weighed about 240 pounds, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

He had dark hair, an unshaven short beard and mustache, and was last seen wearing a dark colored hoody, gray baseball cap and jean shorts.

Authorities released a sketch of the man in hopes of identifying him.

The news released stated he was wanted for assault and attempted rape.
